Jack Henry Principal, Graphic Design
This has been an exciting summer for me and for the Design Studio at OmniWorx. I attended my second DesignThinkers Conference in May in Vancouver. It was a great opportunity to hear from some of the best minds in the industry as well as to make new connections and reconnect with some of my existing network on the west coast. I will also be attending the Toronto conference coming up at the end of October so stay tuned to hear about that in the next edition! I also welcomed a brand new client, Lawn Wizard Toronto, a property maintenance company based in Scarborough. We completely revamped their website to make it responsive and mobile friendly, to allow them to share images of their past work as well as give potential customers a way to check them out online.
I look forward to sharing our news with you through our newsletter. Comments and suggestions are always welcome as we work to make sure our content is applicable to you.
DesignThinkers Vancouver 2018
The west coast edition of RGD’s DesignThinkers Conference was held at the Vancouver Playhouse at the end of May. Presented by RGD, the Association of Registered Graphic Designers, DesignThinkers is Canada’s premiere design event. It featured presentations from some of the greatest minds in design in Canada and internationally including Stephen Gates, the former Head of Design at Citi Bank and Aaron Draplin of Draplin Design Co. OmniWorx Inc’s Principal for Graphic Design, Jack, had the opportunity to attend the event in Vancouver, here is his experience.

Day 1 was an exciting day packed with some great speakers including Meg Lewis, Founder of Ghostly Ferns; Michael Lejeune, Creative Director at Metro Los Angeles; Pia Betton, Partner at Edenspiekermann; Sebastian Padilla, Co-founder & Creative Director of Anagrama; Randy Hunt, Head of Design at Artsy; Ellen Lupton; Aaron Draplin, Founder of Draplin Design Co. and Gemma O'Brien. The 9 o'clock gun, a cannon in Stanley Park that fires every evening at 9:00pm, announced the end of the first day of presentations and activities at DesignThinkers.
The second day was another day that was full of great speakers including Stephen Gates, former Global Head of Design at Citi Bank; Forest Young, Global Principal, Head of Design at Wolff Olins; Grace Hwang, VP of Design and Experience at Carrot, Krys Blackwood, Senior Lead User Experience Designer at NASA JPL; Bob Hambly RGD, Partner of Hambly + Woolley; Samantha Warren, Experience Design Manager at Adobe and Josh Higgins, Executive Creative Director, AR/VR at Facebook. There was also a discussion with this years recipients of the Western Design Thinker of the Year award that was awarded to Brian Hill CEO of Aritzia and Ryan Holmes CEO of Hootsuite. I ended off the second and last day of DesignThinkers catching up with a friend named Maggie from Vancouver. It was great to do some catching up while I was out on the west coast.

Some Time Away
We all need some downtime and this summer we headed to North Kawartha for time at the lake. The weather was glorious, which meant most of the time was spent on the water, either jet-skiing or boating around the lake, sitting on the dock or just floating on the water! For some it also meant a lot of time on the golf course. We found a nice little 9 hole course and even mastered a few of the holes! But now it is back to work and back to school, time to focus on the value we can add for our customers as we sprint towards the end of 2018!
