Holiday Marketing in 2021
Much like last year 2021’s holiday shopping season is not going to be like any other. Although many jurisdictions are now more open, many consumers may still be wary about going out to do their annual holiday shop. How can small businesses adapt to yet another pandemic holiday season? Here are 4 tips for small business owners.
Start Early
If you haven’t started some sort of holiday campaign already, start now! Just like last year, consumers are going to be more likely to shop online which means they will need to take shipping into account for their timelines. With most holiday gift exchanges happening in December, customers are going to want to get an early start to their online shopping to get their gifts by early December at the latest.
Be Mobile Friendly
Have you checked what the mobile ecommerce experience is like on your website? In 2020, Adobe found that more than half of digital holiday revenues came from a mobile device. Is your mobile shopping experience user friendly? What can you do to make it easier for your customers to shop on your site rather than the competitions? Can you provide a faster checkout utilizing Apple Pay, PayPal or by allowing the customer to save their payment information onto an account?
Role Reversal
In 2020 we saw the roles of in-store and online shopping change. Options to buy online and then pick up in-store meant store visits were more transactional rather than customers browsing the shelves. This means that customers wanted a way to browse products more easily online as opposed to spending time in-store. That means that businesses should focus on creating and promoting a great online experience for their customers as that is where they will find the items they are looking for and then just pick them up in-store.
Reward Loyal Customers
We have all heard the studies, getting a new customer is between 5 and 25 times more expensive than keeping an existing customer. Does your business have customers that are consistently coming into your store? The holidays are a great time to reward them for their patronage. Holiday shoppers are not only buying for friends and family, they may also be looking for something for themselves, can you offer a free gift with purchases over a certain amount for your most loyal customers?
